Character name: Suki
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Timeline: Book 3, Chapter 17: The Ember Island Players
Age: 16
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Despite coming from a world full of benders, Suki has no bending ability whatsoever. Instead, she’s trained herself vigorously to be a more than capable fighter. Not only does she have a considerable amount of physical strength (being able to swim and rescue another person while in full armor), she has plenty of dexterity and agility, making her an impressive hand to hand combatant and acrobat. As per Kyoshi tradition, Suki is trained in fighting with Kyoshi war fans (reminiscent of Tessenjutsu) as well as a katana.
In other words, she's a ninja girl.
How would they use their abilities?: Self defense mainly, though Suki is known to come to the aid of others without hesitation.
Appearance:
Suki’s a pretty girl who does look like she can easily kick your ass.
Her eyes are a deep-blue/gray, a common color for those on the island. Her hair is auburn, cropped short into a bob that comes just to her chin. It’s mainly kept neat with a half ponytail as to keep it out of her face in a fight. Though more comfortable in her uniform and paint, as of her escape from the Boiling Rock she’s had to disguise herself in the clothes of the Fire Nation.
Background:
(Things you will need to know. In the woorld of Avatar, there are four nations each representing teh four elements: The Air Nomads, The Water Tribes, The Earth Kingdom, and the Fire Nation. Each nation have certain people, called Benders, that can control the elements of theri repected nationality. The Avatar is the one and only person in the world that can control and master all four elements, so is in a cycle of reincanations.)
Suki was born and raised on Earth Kingdom’s Kyoshi Island. At the age of eight, as per custom of the Island, Suki began her training as a Kyoshi Warrior. The Kyoshi Warriors, in essence, is a all-female group of fighters that pay tribute to the founder of the island, Avatar Kyoshi, by mimicking her style of dress and fighting techniques to protect the island and the Earth Kingdom. She trained hard and eventually became the leader of the group some time before being introduced to the story proper. As a neutral in the War, the Kyoshi Warriors had little to worry about outside training new recruits and keeping outsiders away from the island. Not at all a boring life, but a monotonous one. Surprise surprise, not everyone in this show needs a traumatic past.
But of course, like most things in the world, everything changed upon meeting the Avatar.
Aang, Katara, and Sokka, the at the time Team Avatar, were ambushed by the Warriors for trespassing on the island, unaware the three were merely taking a small break to have fun on their beach. The three were tied up at a pole under strict supervision by the Warriors and the leader of the village Oyaji. Suki tried to interrogate them to find out why they were on the island, angered at a chauvinistic remark from Sokka, and was rightfully distrusting when the answer was just to ride the elephant koi. Oyaji remarked the three might have been Fire Nation spies, but some simple airbending from Aang was all it took to convince them he was actually the new Avatar. The village then welcomed the group with open arms, and Suki returned to her duties of training the Warriors.
With his pride hurt from earlier, Sokka approached the Warrior’s training area and offered to “show off his moves. “ Of course this was an utter failure, and Suki was able to floor him immediately. Still unable to give up, simply stating he was going easy on her, Sokka tried again. And failed again, Suki this time tying his arm and leg together and throwing him to the ground. Sokka left in embarrassment, and Suki returned to work.
And surprisingly enough, Sokka returned again, this time being a lot more humble to Suki. He asked to be trained, and Suki teasingly made sure he was fine with being trained by a girl. Seeing that Sokka was genuine in his apology, Suki actually agreed to his request, with her only stipulation being he had to follow every tradition. Thus making him the buttmonkey by having him wear a dress, but the training was all real. Incredibly clumsy at their fighting style at first, Sokka threw his fan out the door in frustration. But Suki remained in good spirits, getting a laugh from Sokka before explaining that their fighting style did not rely on strength, but instead using the opponent’s force against them. Sokka tried again, this time accidentally knocking Suki down. Suki took this in stride, and invited him to try again.
But not far behind the Avatar was the banished Fire Nation Prince Zuko and his entourage of Fire Nation soldiers. Though able to temporarily able to subdue the prince, Zuko fended off the Warriors and ordered the soldiers to burn down the village. Aang and Katara, realizing the soldiers would follow, agreed to flee the village. But Sokka was hesitant, unwilling to leave before he could apologize to Suki proper for treating her as a girl instead of a warrior. Suki kissed Sokka on the cheek, telling him that she is a girl, and returned to the fight in order to give the three time to retreat. The plan worked, with the soldiers and Zuko leaving to chase after the Avatar. Now realizing that their peace was so easily shattered and inspired by the Avatar’s return, Suki and the rest of the Kyoshi Warriors left the island to fight in the war.
But instead of fighting, the Warriors instead ended up as security for a hidden ferry that led to Ba Sing Se, helping refugees to safe passage. Just so how this series goes, the Avatar and his friends also made their way to the ferry. Though unrecognizable at first due to the lack of makeup, Suki meets up with them, meeting the newest addition to the team, Toph, as well as catching up. Because of the politics of the ferry, Aang got fed up with the woman in charge of tickets and decided to help a family through the Serpent’s Pass, a strip of land that connected to Ba Sing Se but an ultimately dangerous route. Suki accompanied the group to make sure they got through safely, much to Sokka’s concern. Many times during the journey Sokka displayed over protective tendencies, and when Suki questioned him, he merely replied that he couldn’t protect someone and he didn’t want the same thing to happen to her. Because of things that happened in the North Pole, Sokka was reluctant to continue their relationship, and left Suki alone when their conversation was done. Finally getting to the other side of the Pass, Suki planned to return to her work, apologizing to Sokka for acting rashly and assuming things, to which Sokka kissed her to make up for what happened the night before. Suki left the party and made her way back to the other Warriors.
Apparently not content with their work, the Kyoshi Warriors moved on from their small job toward Ba Sing Se, still hoping to do their part in the war. On this journey Suki and the other Warriors were able to find Aang’s flying bison, Appa, hiding alone in a cave. Appa had been kidnapped and left to some pretty horrible people before being found, hence his skittish reaction to the Kyoshi Warriors. Suki, trying to calm Appa down, told Appa how much Aang missed him, and promised to bring the two back together. Though Appa still wasn’t fully trusting of them, the girls cleaned him up and fed him, trying to get him out of his funk so they could return him to Aang. However this was cut short by the arrival of Fire Nation Princess Azula and her two friends, Mai and Ty Lee, who, when pursuing the Avatar, found the bison instead. The Warriors attempted to fight off the three, but were easily tossed aside. In a last ditch attempt to get Appa away, Suki scared him off with a burning branch, getting caught herself by the Fire Nation girls. The Kyoshi Warriors were captured and imprisoned as prisoners of war, Suki sent to the highest security prison, the Boiling Rock, when it became apparent she was the leader. Azula tortured and tormented Suki, but she remained hopeful for the future.
Time passed in prison until the day Suki was found by Sokka, who had infiltrated the prison with the help of Zuko in order to find his father. The three got to work on a breakout plan, which got derailed as soon as Sokka caught wind of a new batch of prisoners that were coming in the next day. Suki and Zuko decided to remain behind with him, though lessening their chance of escape. As luck would have it, Sokka’s father was one of the prisoners to arrive, and a new plan was hatched. The group started a riot to cover their escape, and Suki easily captured the prison warden to act as a hostage. Though almost stopped by the arrival of Azula and Ty Lee, the group was able to escape back to the Western Air Temple, where Suki was welcomed back into the group and all was peaceful.
Until Azula and a fleet of Fire Nation airships found them and forced the group to flee yet another safehouse. But Suki actually remained with the group this time and disguised herself in Fire Nation clothing.
Personality:
”I’m a warrior, but I’m a girl too.”
A dichotomy that very much pertains to Suki as a person.
Suki was born and raised on an island that basically reveres female empowerment, as it was a woman, Avatar Kyoshi, who freed the island from a ruthless dictator centuries ago. Through hard training did she become the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, in effect hardening herself to the beliefs and customs of that group. Men, while not completely looked down upon, were viewed as incapable of learning their art. In battle, Suki is levelheaded, yet assertive. Instead of exerting her own strength, she remains calm, watches carefully, and turns her opponent’s strength on them. She’s fiercely loyal to her homeland and, until meeting Avatar Aang, very cautious of outsiders. Suki is not afraid to speak her mind at all, more times than not comes off as belligerent. She is humble to an extent, admitting to when someone’s bested her in a fair fight, and takes well to when someone is respectful towards her and her traditions. And she hates, HATES, being patronized for any reason. Especially if it’s because of her gender. When Sokka started acting over-protective of her in the Serpent’s Pass, she went out of her way to prove to him she could take care of herself.
Meeting Team Avatar, not only compromising the Island’s neutrality in the war, also compromised Suki’s own views. Sokka was not only the first man to be allowed to learn their ways, but also the first outsider. While she was openly mocking of the idea at first, only through witnessing Sokka’s determination to improve himself and protect her home at the attack did Suki begin to not only take him seriously, but other people in general. She became a much warmer person, more trusting in the strength of others. Leaving her home to do her part in the war is likely the largest example of her faith in her people.
Faith is actually what drives Suki much of the time. She’s compassionate and very trusting of her friends. If there’s a decision that she doesn’t exactly agree with, for example keeping Zuko in their group, she’ll comply with their wishes. When captured by Azula, Suki remained hardened through rigorous torment, always keeping hope that Sokka and her friends would save her.
And, well, she is very much a girly girl when it comes to her love for Sokka. Suki's very patient with her boyfriend, finding most of his annoying traits endearing, though some of his jokes lead to a good facepalm. The two are a very open couple, with lots of kissing and doting on one another. But when the time comes to be serious, Suki focuses on the mission.

[Welcome to another seminar of 'the Guide for dummies.' This week's student: a fifteeen year old girl. Those clothes? Yeah it's easy to guess she's not from around here at all. Maybe this button here-?]
Is this how this thing works? And here I thought you could find some weird things in the Fire Nation.
[Some more random button pressing. If only one of those Vogon things actually explained things right instead of just loading up on a bunch of paperwork. At least the video's working.]
Excuse me, but am I hearing these things correctly? I don't even know how to describe them, some weird cousin to a catgator? The world...is it really gone? I know the world wasn't exactly safe before, but this? This just seems way too sudden.
[She looks worried. Heck, who wouldn't be in a situation like this? But priorities first.]
I'm looking for some people. My friends actually. We must've gotten separated, seeing I can't find them anywhere. There's Sokka, Aang, Katara, Toph, Zuko. None of them are much older than me if that helps. It would just be a really big relief knowing I'm not completely on my own here.
3rd person sample:
Just sitting around and waiting for nothing to happen, it was getting really old really fast. It hadn’t been that long since Suki arrived on Thor,a few hours or so, and already her patience was running on a thin string. A walk to get her mind off things. Yeah, that seemed like a good choice for the time. Much better than sitting alone in her room.
Around several corridors and down several hallways, and she still hadn’t really gotten that far. But she didn’t mind it all that much. At least she kept check on where she turned and what kind of distance she made. Getting lost here? Now that would just be the worst. This place was just so big, you couldn’t help but want to explore it a bit. At least to figure out all the secret ways and dark shadowy spots, because you never know when those will come in handy. It felt like being in one of the grand cities.
Well, one of the grand cities if it were populated by animal people and other odd refugees.
Suki stopped at that thought. ‘Refugee’ huh? It was weird, after trying to help so many, actually being called one herself was a hard note to swallow. Was there really anything she could do now?
Questions?: Where are my Fire Gummies?
